Fornos de Lava
The Fornos de Lava Restaurant, located in Santo Amaro, São Jorge island, 4 km from the village of Velas.
Built of black stone and wood, opened in 2003 by the galician chef Joaquin Alvarez, passionate about Sao Jorge island.
The restaurant has a circular room surrounded large glazed walls offering its clients magnificent views of Pico and Faial islands. The homemade food with the local meat, fish, island seafood and organic vegetables produced on the farm, featuring many traditional dishes, mixing the Azorean and Galician gastronomy.
Among the specialties, you have fish Cataplanas, the Parrilhadas, the Lapas and Clams from Caldeira de Santo Cristo.
